Ted Perry is a Rochester based pianist, composer, and producer. Known for his warm, soulful touch and emphasis on melody, groove, and the importance of storytelling in his music. His unique voice combines and includes various elements of the blues, jazz, folk, indie rock and singer-songwriter genres.
As a composer, his writing explores these diverse musical styles and offers his own personal perspective. He has also written and arranged music for solo piano, String Ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, Studio Orchestra, and a variety of small group settings.
Ted began to study piano at age eight. He would go on to study with Arnie Lawrence and classical pianist Anne Chamberlain. Later he studied composition and performed for several years with Paul Smoker. Ted has performed with musicians such as Ernie Watts, David Spinozza, Chuck Campbell, Paul Smoker, Drew Gress, Dave Santoro, and John Swana.
Ted has a Masters of Music degree from Eastman School of Music with an emphasis on composition and arranging working closely with Bill Dobbins. After spending several years in New York, he returned to Rochester, NY where Ted has continued studying composition and performance with Paul Hofmann. He has traveled as both a pianist and arranger in the US and Canada. He has performed in New York City at a variety of venues such as Somethin' Jazz Club, Cornelia Street Café, the Garage, as well as Chris' Cafe and Ortliebs in Philadelphia. Ted is currently planning to record an EP of new original compositions for a solo and trio piano project.
