Ted Perry is a pianist, composer, and arranger. Known for his warm, soulful touch and emphasis on melody, groove, and the importance of storytelling in his music. His unique voice combines and includes various elements of the blues, jazz, folk, indie rock and singer-songwriter genres.

As a composer, his writing explores these diverse musical styles and offers his own personal perspective. He has also written and arranged music for solo piano, String Ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, Studio Orchestra, and a variety of small group settings.

 

Ted began to study piano at age eight. He would go on to study with classical pianist Anne Chamberlain. The world of improvised music captured his imagination in high school. Listening to classic blues and jazz recordings he began to learn tunes and solos and develop his playing. Later he studied composition and performed for several years with Paul Smoker. Ted has performed with musicians such as Ernie Watts, David Spinozza, Chuck Campbell, Paul Smoker, Drew Gress, Dave Santoro, and John Swana.

 

Ted has a Masters of Music degree from Eastman School of Music with an emphasis on composition and arranging working closely with Bill Dobbins. After spending several years in New York, he returned to Rochester, NY where Ted has continued to teach and perform. He has traveled as both a pianist and arranger in the US and Canada. Ted is currently planning to record an EP of new original compositions for piano trio to be released summer of 2023.
